Dylan was so excited about his Mario Kart Wii back pack that he insisted on taking it to his preschool open house. After all Olivia was taking hers to her open house packed full of school supplies.
Naturally both kids open houses were at the same time so Tom took Dylan to preschool and I took Olivia to first grade.
Look how excited she is to see her desk. I was so very impressed by Mrs. Krispin's organization. There were piles of things neatly organized on each desk. She had a check list on the top that even included number one introducing yourself to Mrs. Krispin and ended with reminding you to do the sign ups in the gym before you leave the building. She had the kids look through all of their math, spelling, vocabulary, etc books and then stack them on the left side of their desk. Then she wanted them to pack their pencil boxes and stack those on the right side of their desk. Get the idea?? Very organized. I thought it was awesome. There was even an apple on Olivia's desk. Olivia thought that was so cool that she wanted to have her apple on the first day of school.
Olivia is very excited to know some of the kids from Kindergarten. She is excited about her desk. She was excited that Mommy was going to use circle drive this year instead of the bus. She is excited that at library day she gets to check out two books instead of just one. She is excited that Mrs. Krispin does everything alphabetically including lining up and so Olivia is always the line leader.
I also found out an interesting thing that Mrs. Krispin does with the desks. I asked her how she rearranges the desks throughout the year because it was obviously done alphabetically to begin with. Interestingly she said every Monday the kids will stack everything out of their desks onto the chair then move to one side of the room. Then they will draw a number and that will be their new desk. So each week they change who they sit by. Mrs. Krispin said it keep things mixed up and if a pairing isn't working out for that kid or for her she just remembers that it's only one week and it will be mixed up again.
Oh another funny thing about her class is that her warning system for bad behavior is that she really does put their name in a dog house. You get dog bones on top of that that cost you recess time or ultimately sends you to the principles office. Olivia was very concerned of course about the dog house as she doesn't like to do anything wrong (I wonder where she gets that from?). I know she'll do great!
Dylan was SO EXCITED to go to see his preschool. He has waited to go to preschool really ever since Olivia started going. It was especially hard on him when Olivia went off to all day Kindergarten and he didn't get to go. So Dylan was very ready to go see his classroom. He showed everyone his back pack and his Mario Kart toy. He told everyone all about how good he is at playing Mario Kart Wii and all he has earned on the game so far. I think they got the idea.
He was having so much fun exploring the classroom that he didn't want to go home. Just a few more days to go until school starts.
